I have had no problem with the cartridges -have only started using one of them - print quality is good - no problems.

So I run out of ink on New Year's Eve, and my local office supply store - let's call it, "Thumbtacks" - is of course closed for the holiday. Irritated, I decide to price the cartridges on Amazon. (This is a new printer, and this is the first time I'd needed a new cartridge.) I was blown away by the price difference. We're talking more than $20 cheaper here, for the exact same product. At Thumbtacks it's $32 for ONE cartridge and $57 for a 2-pack.
I've owned many printers, but this is my first Brother. I'm really pleased with this ink. I am an artist and often use printouts in my art, and one of the best things about this black ink is that it is very water-resistant once printed. This the only printer I've ever owned that has that quality. With most printers the slightest drop of water washes the ink right off the page, but this stuff stays put. (The colors do run, though.)
Thumbtacks dropped the ball on this one. (It's New Year's Eve. See what I did there?) My advice? Definitely buy this ink here. As an added bonus, take your empty cartridges to Thumbtacks and they'll give you $3 in store credit for each one.
By the way, it's not listed here, but I have a Brother MFC-5890. This is the correct ink for that model.

First I went to Staples to purchase the ink. I almost fell over when the cashier told me the price. I bought it but I didn't open it because I know that I could find a better deal somewhere else. I found the deal here and it will be my first stop when I need ink products for my printers.
Does not fit a Brother MFC-490CW! April 27, 2009

In one of the seller's descriptions, it listed that it would fit a Brother MFC-490CW, but it DOES NOT. The Amazon ad didn't say it, but one of the generic brand marketplace sellers did say it would fit. This cartridge is fatter than the one for the 490 and just won't fit into the slot. Amazon was nice enough to take it back, even though it wasn't specifically their ad that said it would fit. if you've got a 490, you've gotta get the LC61 series.
